About The Department
The Department of Political Science started with the establishment of the Mizoram Christian College in 2020. It offers BA with Honors, as well as other interdisciplinary, Multi-Disciplinary, and Value-Added Courses across various departments. The Department consists of young and energetic teachers who are dedicated to cultivating inquisitive minds and creating democratic academic culture. Beyond academic excellence and performance, the teachers put great effort in inculcating intellectual curiosity among the students, inside and outside of the curriculum.
Currently, there are four faculty members, having extensive teaching experience and diverse range of research interests and academic specializations. Apart from the core papers, the Department offers other courses like, ‘Environment Education’, ‘Universal Human Values’, ‘Understanding India’, ‘Government & Politics of Mizoram’, ‘Forms of Government’, ‘Human Rights’, ‘Introduction to the Constitution of India’, etc.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The Department has made it its primary goal to focus on governance, social movements, international affairs, institutions and groups that have impact on how the state and society functions. Students of Political Science will acquire crucial analytical, administrative, organizational and philosophical skills that will be helpful for careers in government, law, politics, business, non-profit organizations, international organizations, research, journalism, academics and teaching. The purpose of the degree is to encourage an academic understanding of the nation-state, institutions, and issues that shape global politics.
Critical topics and burning issues like corruption, terrorism, war, elections, rights, justice, liberalism, environment, theories of government and the state etc. are discussed under the discipline of Political Science. This important discipline has since been the leading scope in the field of competitive and civil service examinations, not only in Mizoram but also in India as a whole.
The Department covers the important areas of both the historical and contemporary political issues, and tackles philosophical, ethical and moral questions to develop a critical analysis of men, government and society. Therefore, it follows a method of teaching where the students are trained on the highest possible standards of independent and liberal thinking. Towards these, the students are engaged in academic discourses and are taught the art of academic writing.
ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department is actively engaged in wide range of activities and programs.
- Special Lectures from subject experts,Partnership and Exchange programs with other colleges to further maximize the learning experiences and awareness on social issues and trends.
Faculty Members’ engagement as resource persons and participating in academic events in and out of the college/state.
- Initium course for the new batch of students, including Personality, Psychological and Academic excellency test.
- Peractio course for the outgoing students, including Career guidance program, Interview skill, Public-speaking Skill, Presentation skill, etc.
- Site Visits, including places like state museum, government and party offices, Assembly House, Synod Resource Centre etc, relevant to their subjects and job prospects.
- Off- Campus classes outside of the college premises to immerse students with new environments.
- Mentorship and Counselling Program, to address problems faced by the students, and guide their future endeavors.
- Observation of Significant Days (e.g., Gandhi Jayanti, National Voters Day etc.,)
- Parent-Teacher Interactive Session, to encourage cordial relation between parents and teachers.
- Recreational and Motivational Activities (Futsal games, Resort, Motivational speech etc.,)
- Community Cleanliness Drive, including cleaning locality and spots as a way of giving back to the community.
- Attending State Legislative Assembly Session, to familiarize the students with the democratic process of our country.
- Meet the Principal Program, to cultivate values and cultures of the college.
TECHNIQUES OF TEACHING
The Department has been actively employing various methods and techniques of imparting education in and outside of the classroom walls.
- Interactive Classes, where the students are encouraged to express opinions and share thoughts with teachers and each others, regarding crucial issues and affairs.
- Movie Screening of historical and political documentaries.
- Power Point Presentation, to enhance creativity and rational aptitudes of the students.
- Off-campus Classes, outside of the college premises to prove the practicability of the syllabus.
- Class Debate, on various topics and issues.
- Fieldwork, including data collections as per syllabus, conducted by the students
- Viva-voce examination, to unveil the subject knowledge of the students verbally.
- Tutorial Classes, to further clarify subject matters to the students when required.
- Newspaper analysis in the class.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Political Science as a discipline offers a wide range of career opportunities. including: Academics, civil services, law, investigative journalism, mass media, communications, social service organizations, international organizations (United Nations, Human Rights organizations etc.), business, marketing, and not to mention, political career.

In a Peractio class for 6th semester students, the resource person Ms. Alemla Lalremsangi, Assistant, DP&AR (GSW), spoke on the topic ‘Scope and Patterns of Competitive Exams’ (28th February 2025).
